Dear Whitman Class of 2022,
Welcome to Princeton and to the best residential college, Whitman College! I hope you all are having a great summer and getting ready for the 1st. of September. All of us here at Whitman are so excited to meet you and get to know you!
Other residential colleges may claim they’re the best, but the winner is clearly Whitman. From air-conditioned dorms to the Chicken Pot Pie on Wednesday, Whitman is filled with small details that will allow you to truly make it your second home. But, no home is home without the people within and Whitman is no exception. The white castle walls are filled with your future best friends, the incredible college staff, and the amazing workers (I’m convinced we have the nicest and best dining hall workers on campus) who you will soon come to know by their first names. The people within Whitman truly shaped my freshman year at Princeton, and I can’t wait for you to experience how transformative this place can be!
Princeton will provide you with so many opportunities to explore your interests while simultaneously pushing you out of your comfort zone. From laughing with friends till 3 am to grabbing quesadillas at late meal with your study group, you will undoubtedly have some incredible experiences and make life-long memories in the orange bubble. Part of those memories may be staying up late studying during midterms or long days in Firestone during reading period, but everyone is here to help you get through. Whitman College provides you with a safe, comfortable, and an inviting community to fall back on, giving you a support system throughout all four years.
One group of students that aims to strengthen the Whitman community is the Whitman College Council. The council organizes many events, for you to make new friendships and strengthen old ones, including:
• Study Breaks: For those times, when you need a break from that Writing Seminar essay or p-set. The study breaks are hosted in Whitman College Café and consist of delicious food such as pizza, bubble tea, cupcakes, Chinese food, etc. It’s a great time to chill with your friends while eating free food!
• Whitman Olympics: The Olympics is a friendly competition among advisee groups at the beginning of the year and includes dodge ball, tug of war, and a pie eating contest.
• Broadway Trips: During your time at Princeton, you will have plenty of opportunities to go to the Big Apple. Whitman-sponsored Broadway trips are a great way to see some of the best plays at heavily discounted prices. Our past trips have included Kinky Boots, Wicked, and Lion King. I even saw Dear Evan Hansen in November!
We hope that you are looking forward to your time at Princeton and Whitman! If you have any questions, thoughts, concerns or want to introduce yourself, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can find the rest of the council listed under the Whitman College Council tab on the website, and feel free to reach out to any of us! We’re looking forward to making your first year as amazing as possible.
On Behalf of the Whitman College Council, Welcome to Princeton!
